Every piece of body jewellery has two sizes: how thick it is (the gauge) and how long or wide it is (the bar length or ring diameter). Each product page lists both. Most of our range is 16G (1.2mm) or 14G (1.6mm).
Gauge chart
The gauge is the thickness of the bar or ring. The smaller the number, the thicker the jewellery. Past 00G, sizes are given in millimetres only.
| Gauge | Thickness (mm) | Thickness (inches) |
|---|---|---|
| 20G | 0.8mm | 0.032″ |
| 18G | 1.0mm | 0.040″ |
| 16G | 1.2mm | 0.047″ |
| 14G | 1.6mm | 0.063″ |
| 12G | 2.0mm | 0.079″ |
| 10G | 2.4–2.5mm | 0.098″ |
| 8G | 3.0–3.2mm | 0.125″ |
| 6G | 4mm | 0.157″ |
| 4G | 5mm | 0.197″ |
| 2G | 6mm | 0.236″ |
| 0G | 8mm | 0.315″ |
| 00G | 10mm | 0.394″ |
Bar length
Barbells and labrets are measured along the bar, between the ends: the ball or top isn’t included. This is the length that sits through the piercing. Our most common lengths are 6mm, 8mm and 10mm. Industrial barbells are much longer, usually around 38mm.
Ring diameter
Rings, hoops, clickers and segment rings are measured across the inside of the ring, at its widest point. This is the inner diameter. 8mm and 10mm are the sizes we sell most.
Ends, balls and gems
A ball, gem or top has its own size, such as 3mm or 4mm across. It doesn’t change the gauge or the bar length.
Measuring jewellery you already have
The easiest way to find your size is to measure a piece that already fits.
- Use a ruler with millimetres, or digital calipers for the gauge, which is hard to read on a ruler.
- Gauge: measure the thickness of the bar, not the ball.
- Bar length: measure the straight part between the ends.
- Ring: measure across the inside of the ring.
- Compare with the size printed on the product you bought it from, if you still have it.
Not sure? Your piercer can tell you the gauge and length you were fitted with.

We sell jewellery; we’re not piercers. This guide is about the jewellery itself. Which size, style or material suits your piercing, especially a new one, is a question for a professional piercer. Sizes in this guide are typical; always check the size on the product page.
